Marlin Fishing From Above and Next Spectator Sport
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I added a couple more links to coincide with the video below but it just left me flabbergasted! I think this video takes place somewhere in Australia. They call this guy the Gannet Man (Matt Watson) and he’s a “kiwi” (New Zealander). He’s also been featured on shows like The Late show with David Letterman, The Today Show, 60 minutes, NBC news, BBC World to name just a few of the countless shows, news agencies, publications and websites that have been fascinated by what he does. He has a show called, the Ultimate Fishing Show. This is freakish! Crazy Kiwi? You decide! by checking it out yourselves and leave me a comment:
In addition, after the shock of the video has worn off, here’s something to think about.
Time and time again, it has been debated whether marlin fishing could become a spectator sport. I’ve seen it myself and enjoy watching it immensely. I believe it could be the next big thing and with the popularity of bass fishing tournaments, it would be a natural progression for sportfishing. What do you think? Leave me a comment.

Ho’omakaukau & Pau Hana Friday
A Prep for the Upcoming Weekend
Okay, since I now have limited time between my honey-do, volunteer and job workload, I’ve decided to combine my Thursday (Ho’omakaukau - Get Ready) and Friday (Pau Hana - Finished Work) together into one post. But don’t despair if I get more donations, I might be able to post more often (shameless solicitation). Remember most of us, bloggers, do this for love and don’t get paid diddly-squat. So kokua, if can.

Weekend forecast looks like scattered showers (50% chance for rain) with periods of sun.

Tips
Young’s Fishmarket
I’m a seafood and Hawaiian food aficionado, so when I saw that Young’s Fishmarket had their own Twitter, Facebook and web site. I was on it, like a haw-net! Young’s makes delicious food that will broke your mouth! I’m saying this from small-kid, hanabata days experience. I always relished the chance after a hard-days fishing to stop over at Young’s whenever my parents opted to go there. Young’s also offers mail-order, their menu, specials, etc. So if you like to be constantly updated and ‘ono for delicious Hawaiian-cooking, hook up with Young’s and you can’t go wrong.

Tips
I found these tips through the Field & Stream Magazine. If you like their tips, make sure you subscribe to their newsletter or pick up a subscription for $10/yr. Now that’s cheap and I’ve learned a ton of stuff from the magazine over the years. Not just for fishing but for practical stuff like survival skills on the ocean and in the wilderness. I’ve added some “artful” descriptions and sorted out the fishing-specific ones, so I hope it helps. I particularly like the idea of the golf club gaff. Hmmmm. . .:
Monofilament Floss Dispenser Holder
Flytying Thread Taggle Avoider
Organize Hooks with Safety Pins
Avoid Flyline Memory
Golf Club Gaff
Fishing Spool Koozie
Letter Opener Braided Line Slicer
Chum Bomb Slinger
Fillet Knife Bobber

No fishing tournaments this weekend.

Barbless Hooks Catching On
The continuing debate on whether you have a better chance of catching fish on a barbless hook got a real boost from fishermen in the recent S. Tokunaga Ulua Challenge tournament in Hilo, Hawai’i. The Big Island Video News reports that a fisheries expert congratulated many of the participants in using barbless hooks.
Now if we can only figure out how to catch and release live fish in these tournaments, like the pro-am bass fishermen do. It might be possible one day. That’s an idea for the inventive ulua fishing community to contemplate. I’m all for it, if it can be done.
Click on the pics for more info on this great catch and debate!
