A whopper bonefish (8 lbs) caught off the Hawai'i reef flats on an incoming tide.

*UPDATE:

Aloha and mahalo for visiting the Reef Rippas Hawai’i Fan Page. At this time, professional, volunteer and family obligations has limited me from continuing my guide service, even on a part-time basis. I have wrestled with this for quite awhile and as such, decided the guide service will be suspended for a year until I regain more time for clients.

I will still be taking inquiries, but only on a limited-availability basis only. I apologize for the inconvenience and will fulfill all other bookings I have until the end of June 2010. Although this may only be temporary, I hope that you will look into Reef Rippas Hawai’i in the future.

Sincerely,
Don Aweau

The Hawaii Fishing Fanatic blog endorses Reef Rippas (Rippers) Guide Service. I am currently taking inquiries for flats fishing (flyfishing/spinning gear) in the Honolulu/Greater Honolulu Metro Area. I aim to teach you the uniqueness of the island shoreline fishery, instruct you on how to fish this fishery, and to experience the Hawaiian fishing culture and history of our islands.

My guide service is unique from the other fishing guide services in the islands. I attempt to utilize as much “green” methods as possible to protect the environment and to teach my clients about the Hawaiian fishing culture and traditions. I sight-fish for ‘o’io (bonefish in Hawaiian) as false-casting for bonefish is not my cup of tea. I’m a Hawaiian, a historian/culturist and a passionate fly fisherman. I recently moved back to Hawai’i after living on the East Coast for over 12 years. I started my fly fishing career on the Upper Delaware River with Al Caucci along with family and friends. Since then it’s been a whirlwind of fly fishing experiences. Please see more info on my blog “About” page.

Monster Chinook or King Salmon

Chinook/King Salmon

I have flyfished for many different species (bonefish, tarpon, trout, Pacific & Atlantic salmon, steelhead, permit, snook, striped bass, bluefish, etc.)  in the U.S. and abroad (East & West Coasts, Mexico. etc.).

I started my guide service recently because I did not see any of the other services providing the type of fishing experience I believe is unique to these islands. That being said, there are some really BIG bonefish in the islands! I can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to catch one but I’ll try my best to get you into some trophy fish. The rest is up to you! Cast, strip and hopefully, Hanapa’a! (Fish On!).

At this time, I am only able to accommodate a single person for wading opportunities. I believe the single-person experience is important in sight-fishing for Hawaiian bonefish on the unique Hawaiian reef flats. I am open to guide an additional person if that person is willing to learn on the same level. In this way I can provide personalized service to both clients. If you have a larger party, please let me know so that I can make arrangements or refer you to a guide service that shares my fishing values.

My rates include (per person/per day):

Full Day with lunch and refreshments - $250 wade only

Additional person - $50 wade only

Half Day with refreshments - $150 wade only

Additional person - $30 wade only

If shuttle service needed - $40
